Where to eat & drink
in Boulogne

France's largest fishing port. The freshest table in the north.

Boulogne lands more fresh fish than any other port in France. That fact shapes everything you eat here: the market on Place Dalton, the covered halls of Les Aubettes, the restaurant menus that change with the catch. This is not a city where you eat well despite being in northern France. It is a city you visit because of what it puts on the plate.

SailLink's Boulogne Circle

Where we send our passengers.

Four addresses. Two circles. One standard.

Our Circle

"We are transparent about who is in the Cockpit Club and who is a Friend because both matter, in different ways."

The Cockpit Club is SailLink's formal circle of Boulogne partners. Venues that joined officially for the season, whose standards match what we offer on board. They make the crossing feel continuous from pontoon to plate, from cabin to room.

Friends of SailLink are addresses that stood with us in other ways. They donated meals to our Christmas Challenge, the community fundraiser that made Season 2 possible and backed the project before it had proved itself. They are not in the Cockpit Club. They are in something older: our story.

All share the same quality bar. They are places we would choose ourselves. Tell them you arrived by sail.

Proqua

The first coffee after docking. The last before boarding.

A Boulogne-based coffee roasting house founded in 1951, this family business is now in its third generation, continuing to bring the passion for specialty coffee to life with the same enthusiasm for roasting. Committed to a more responsible approach, it asserts its CSR values by using an electric roaster and favoring transport by sail for a portion of its green coffees. Firmly established in Boulogne-sur-Mer, it has two locations: the historic Coffee & Shop at 9 rue Victor Hugo, as well as a second establishment at 92 rue de Folkestone, certified “Accueil Vélo”. Whether for a gourmet break or a moment of relaxation, you can enjoy a welcoming setting indoors or on the terrace, while the team takes care of you.

Why we chose them

Alignment of method. They ship coffee by sail. We ship passengers by sail. Proqua became our official waiting point in 2026, the SailLink crew's morning ritual, and where your crossing begins or gently ends.

Hotel Monsieur Georges, 4-star boutique hotel facing the harbour of Boulogne-sur-Mer Cockpit Club Partner
Hotel · Restaurant

Monsieur Georges

Harbour views upstairs. Seafood kitchen below.

Above all a hotel, and a very good one. Renovated in 2024, Monsieur Georges sits three minutes from our pontoon, on 102 Quai Leon Gambetta in front of the port. The rooms look onto the harbour. The restaurant below works from short menus built around local seafood, the right bottles, and the kind of service that remembers you said "by sail" at check-in.

Why we chose them

Arrival, not check-in. Monsieur Georges joined the Cockpit Club in 2026 because they understood our passengers did not want another hotel. They wanted somewhere to arrive. Unpack once. Walk everywhere.

Cool K'cahuète nomadic pop-up restaurant on the cliffs of the Côte d'Opale Friend of SailLink
Pop-up Restaurant · Seasonal

Cool K'cahuète

A unique bubble exprience restaurant on the cliffs.

In 2026, Cool K'cahuète has found its home at 1 Chemin de Ningles, Équihen-Plage on the airfield above the cliffs, with an unobstructed view over the Channel. Open Thursday evening to Sunday lunchtime, from 20 March to 27 September (plus Wednesday evenings in July & August). Every month the menu shifts with the season: local produce from the Boulonnais, short-supply-chain producers, regional traditions crossed with techniques from further afield. One of the most spectacular settings on the Côte d'Opale.

Why they're in our story

They fed our fundraiser. K'cahuète donated meals to our 2025 Christmas Challenge, the community effort that funded Season 2. They chose the view over the rent. We chose the crossing over the terminal. Same conviction.

Maison Catom, artisan bakery, Boulogne-sur-Mer Friend of SailLink
Artisan Bakery · Traditional · Mon–Sat

Maison Catom

Boulogne's best bakery. Ancestral methods, daily bread.

Three addresses across the city : Léon Blum, Brequerecque and rue de Folkestone. Open Monday to Saturday. Maison Catom works from ancestral techniques: slow fermentation, honest ingredients, the kind of loaf that makes the crossing worth planning around. The rue de Folkestone bakery is five minutes from our pontoon !

Why they're in our story

They fed our community, twice! Maison Catom donated vouchers to our Christmas Challenge and did it again in 2026 for the SailLink community. The kind of generosity you remember.

La Matelote fine-dining restaurant and garden, Boulogne-sur-Mer seafront Founding Friend · Since 2024
Fine Dining · Institution · Seafood

La Matelote

Boulogne's fine-dining institution, decades deep.

Opposite the aquarium, directly on the harbour front, the Lestienne family's kitchen works from a disarmingly simple rule: whatever came in on the boats that morning, cooked exactly the way it should be. A dining room where the staff remember you arrived by sail, a wine list resolutely French, and a dessert trolley that is, on its own, a reason to come back.

Why they're in our story

The first to say yes. La Matelote backed SailLink before the first commercial crossing had even sailed, and donated meals to our Christmas Challenge for Season 2. Our founding supporter, and our home table in Boulogne.

After the crossing · A drink in town

Two bars, two Boulognes.

One by the water, one up in the walled old town.

Beers N Paradise

Thirteen taps, halfway between the port and the town.

A Boulogne institution for anyone who takes beer seriously. Thirteen rotating draughts of iconic Belgian and northern French brews, a deep cellar of whisky and rum, and boards of saucisson to go with them. Three floors, low light, regulars who turn into friends. It sits on rue Victor Hugo, about halfway between our pontoon and the town centre. Evenings only, closed Sundays.

Why we send you here

The after-crossing pint. The kind of bar where you walk in a stranger and walk out with a tip for tomorrow.

Monsieur Guy

An old barn turned bar, cellar and table, up in the walled town.

Up in the walled old town, La Cave and La Grange de Monsieur Guy are one address that does it all. Wines of character, artisan beers (some brewed on site), generous charcuterie and cheese boards in the courtyard, and a proper bistronomic table next door when you want to sit down to dinner. Cobbled streets, stone walls, a cat that wanders between the chairs. The old Boulogne at its most relaxed.

Why we send you here

Worth the climb. When you want the old town, a glass of something local and nowhere to be, this is it.

The Market at
Place Dalton

Twice a week, Place Dalton becomes the most honest food market in northern France. Local fishermen sell directly from their catch, whatever the season, whatever the tide brought in that morning. Alongside them: cheesemongers, market gardeners, bakers, charcutiers. No tourist performance. Just the city feeding itself.

What to look for at the stalls
Fish of the day Whatever came in that morning. The fishermen decide the menu, not the other way around.
Shellfish & crustaceans Seasonal shellfish from local beds. Ask the vendor what is at its best. They always know.
Northern cheeses Maroilles, Vieux-Boulogne, Mimolette. Some of France's most characterful cheeses, at their source.
Local produce Producers from the Boulonnais: vegetables, bread, charcuterie, honey. The whole region in one square.

Les Aubettes

Open every day of the year. Straight from the boat.

Quai Gambetta · Harbour Front

Les Aubettes

The fishermen's stalls, every morning

Les Aubettes are the small covered stalls that line Quai Gambetta, directly on the harbour, held by the families of Boulogne's fishermen. This is not a market hall. It is a row of open-air shelters where the catch comes off the boat and straight onto the ice in front of you.

Open every day of the year, including Sundays. Hours vary with the tides and the day's catch, but stalls are generally open from 6h30 to 12h30. Come before 10h for the widest choice. By midday the best of the catch is gone. The fishwives behind the stalls are generous with advice on what to buy and how to cook it.

Insider tip: look for the light blue stalls. Those are run by small local fishing families, selling their own catch directly off their boat. The dark blue stalls belong to wholesale resellers. Same quay, very different provenance.
